StepTales

StepTales Privacy Policy

Effective 26 October 2026

StepTales turns the walking you already do into virtual journeys to extraordinary places. We built it so that your information stays with you.

The short version: the app doesn't collect your personal data. Your Apple Health data and your journey progress stay on your devices. There are no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking.

Who we are

StepTales is made by Keith McKinney, trading as StepTales. Contact: support@steptales.app.

If you contact us

If you email us, we'll use your email address and message only to reply and help you. We keep them for as long as needed to deal with your request, and then delete them. We never use them for marketing unless you ask us to.

Apple Health

With your permission, StepTales reads two types of data from Apple Health: step count and walking and running distance. We use them only to move you along your virtual journeys and to show your progress.

Your journeys and settings

Your progress, souvenirs and settings are saved on your iPhone. They're included in your device's normal backups, which Apple manages. We don't run a server, and we can't see them.

Apple Watch

If you use the StepTales watch app, your iPhone sends a small summary to your paired Apple Watch: your current route, distances, next landmark and today's distance. It doesn't go anywhere else. If you allow notifications on the watch, it can tell you when you reach a landmark. These notifications are created on the watch itself.

Maps

Route maps use Apple Maps to show a virtual route. StepTales doesn't ask for or use your location.

Subscriptions

StepTales Passport is purchased through the App Store. Apple handles payment, and we never see your payment details. The app checks your subscription status with Apple on your device.

Apple's services

Apple Health, Apple Maps, the App Store and Apple Watch are provided by Apple and covered by Apple's Privacy Policy.

Children

StepTales isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect anyone's personal data.

Your rights

The app sends us no personal data, so the only information we might hold is an email you've sent us. You can ask us to access or delete it at any time. You can delete everything StepTales stores by deleting the app, and remove its Health access in Settings. If you have any questions, contact support@steptales.app. If you're in the UK or EU, you also have the right to complain to your data protection authority (in the UK, the ICO).

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the effective date. If we ever start collecting data, we'll tell you in the app first.
